Fit For Work – do you know what it is?

When we asked our clients about this service, not many of them were able to tell me what it was for and how they accessed it and what benefit it could add to their businesses.  A long with a robust absence management policy and process, this service can help an Employer reduce the cost of long term absence (which in our policies is more than 4 weeks) as well as supporting their employees in returning to work.

The Fit For Work service is a Government Funded Service providing occupational health assessments on referral from a GP or an Employer, where an employee has been absent for at least 4 weeks.  The advice service is delivered through their website (fitforwork.org) and telephone helplines and has been in operation since January 2015.

It’s a valuable information service, which SME’s, who don’t have the luxury of their own Occupational Health Service, have previously had to either do without or pay a high price for.

Not only does the service provide access to health and work advice but it also provides a route for Employers to refer employees to for an assessment, which is usually conducted over the telephone.  The aim being to help an employee back to work sooner and reduce the cost of absence for businesses.   In addition to the free advice and assessment, Employers could also be eligible for a tax exemption of up to £500 a year per employees on any medical interventions that are recommended.

The referral process is very straightforward and is all done online and if you are a retained Client of Do You Need My Help Ltd we will do this for you as part of our service.

Please give us a call if you would like to understand the process further or you need support in managing any absence concerns you have on 0121 296 2993 or alternatively email on jo.jinks@dynmh.com.
